They are wanting to start seeing how she will do with soy and some dairy products such as yogurt, cheese, etc. This makes me nervous. For those of you with MSPI children, did they outgrow it?
If so, how old were they when they did? For those of you with children with reflux, did they outgrow that? Thanks for your help! As an aside My DS did have reflux and it it was really only a problem when he was trying to sleep.
But, there is this quiet void of parents who got the MSPI diagnosis years ago and are still living it day-to-day. The void makes it seem like this is only a problem we had with our infants.
My elimination diet is long gone. So, to all the parents freshly researching MSPI and wondering where this might take you, these are my lessons learned three years post-diagnosis. Our doctor repeatedly told us out most infants outgrow the intolerances around when they turn 1. Sounds good, but that stat gave us a lot of false hope unfortunately. As I can attest, the intolerances can actually last for years later, much longer than breastfeeding or formula feeding.
Around 3 and a half, our daughter finally outgrew her soy intolerance. Going on the elimination diet felt like a me-problem at the time, without realizing it was going to turn into a much larger child-problem once she started eating solids and later, entire meals.
I was so excited to finally be off the diet once and for all!! Ice cream!! Was that a tantrum? Or a reaction to the yogurt test yesterday? Or are they because of the baked muffin test we just tried. Maybe the rash is because of the pool this morning? I was terrified that she was going to have a bad reaction and be in a lot of pain, but she had no reaction to it. She was absolutely fine. Could it be because she is outgrowing the allergy?
My GI took her off regular formula at 3 months and put her on soy. It takes two weeks for the protiens to build up in the system. What formula is she on? She probably has an intollerance and it may take a couple of weeks on a regular formula to start showing signs of MSPI again. My son was on Neocate formula until he turned one and now he is on Goodstart and he will be 2 tomorrow and he eats almost anything.
So I say anywhere between 1 year to 3 years old. Some babies never grow out of it. Good luck on whatever you decide. He still takes it to this day.
I would just make sure I took it slow and watched for any signs and if you see any then make sure you get her right back on the Alimentum. Let us know what you decide. I am curious if she does well.
