That means that everything that happens in these stories does not matter at all to the main plot. Fans had been watching this anime for 15 years and all of a sudden, in the middle of the end battle, the show dropped a Tenten story on them.

With villains of the week , very small stakes, and a plethora of kiddie comedy, the last episodes of the series are a pointless diversion from starting the next series of the show.
The 12 Guardian Ninja are the bodyguard shinobi of the feudal lord of the Land of Fire. Asuma Sarutobi was once a member of that elite group, and this story deals with troubles in a fire temple led by another member of the Guardian This arc has many contributions to the main series, particularly for the plot point it was in at the time. It expands on Naruto's training in the wind style and explores his struggle with his nine-tails transformation.
It also delves into Asuma's story. His death hits that much harder after spending this arc exploring his past. Another series of one-off stories, this arc is a good example of bad filler. It's mostly a series of flashbacks to the original series' days. As if episodes from the original series weren't bad enough, here they are again bloating Shippuden. Weirdly enough, this filler arc has a lot of kisses in it.

A meteorite that emits a great deal of chakra is the target of several attempted thefts, and Team Guy is on a mission to Hoshigakue in order to help protect it. Naruto thinks that Orochimaru might be involved in the attempts to steal it and therefore insists on going with them.
In this mission, Naruto teams up with Hinata and Choji to travel to the Land of Vegetables to act as an escort for a group of merchants. In this arc, despite the fact that Lee has been on a number of missions and has shown himself to be in pretty decent fighting condition, he is put up against a student in order to see if he really is doing better as a fighter or if he needs more time to recuperate.
This leads to him almost getting reinjured at the hands of Yagura, a prodigy who is actually an imposter looking for revenge against Guy who caused the death of his father. Konoha is still in the process of being rebuilt after the devastation of the Konoha Crush arc.
